Fiberglass Domes

This dome below one of our favorite projects of 2008. It was for a home being built in the country in South Georgia; for which we also built the colossal columns on the portico.

Old world techniques were used to create the model for a 24 ft. dia. X 8 ft. rise dome. Weight hanging in the roof trusses was an issue. Our design resulted in a dome that weighs under 800 lbs., in sixteen sections, of 48 lbs each. It has a one of a kind ceiling medallion which was cast in a slump to match the radius of the dome. The 8" wide decorative ring around the dome is cast in solid resin and marble dust . Check back soon for the finished photos of the painted clouds and giant chandelier (lowered for cleaning and service by a winch in the attic ). This dome was installed without any problems in a few hours, by a general contractor and several of his crew.
